 Position Summary:

 The Director of Publications/Scientific Communications provides publications expertise and insight into the development of integrated strategic global publication plans as well as driving scientifically rigorous and compliant publications across the nephrology franchise. This role is responsible for the early and late-stage product portfolio in the nephrology TA and interfaces with cross-functional senior leaders to ensure alignment with global publication strategies and plans, are developed and delivered in a globally consistent way.


  • Drive development and delivery of the integrated nephrology publication plan to ensure key scientific statements in publications are supported by appropriate data, maximizing the impact and credibility of scientific communications.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams in the development, management, and execution of strategic publication plans, and ensure publication projects are aligned with strategic objectives for assigned products.
  • Serve as internal point of contact regarding nephrology TA publication program status ensuring proactive communication of overall status with cross-functional teams, investigators, and alliance partners to ensure the needs of the regions and key countries are met.
  • Lead the development of medical and scientific communication platforms and lexicons as needed in close collaboration with cross-functional colleagues.
  • Lead publication steering committees and / or publication workshops/ad boards, where necessary, in collaboration with study investigators and internal colleagues.
  • Responsible for ensuring the scientific integrity, quality, accuracy and adherence to timelines and processes of all deliverables of scientific resources.
  • Monitor and analyze the medical literature to inform medical strategies and tactics.
  • Provide medical accuracy review and fact-checking support to Promotional Review Committee (PRC), Medical Review Committee (MRC), and publication processes as required.
  • Maintain records of source publications and fact-checking reference documents.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of US and international requirements and guidance associated with scientific publications.
  • Work closely with and manage medical communications agencies and vendor partners.
  • Provide leadership and influence for ongoing strategic development within clinical development as well as other areas that may impact Travere’s ability to deliver industry-leading publications activities in an ethical way.


Education/Experience Requirements: 

  • PhD, PharmD, or advanced post-graduate scientific degree with 8+ years of relevant proven experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare industry, development, and/or research; previous managerial experience highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience as a medical publication professional and in-depth knowledge of the principles of developing effective publication strategies and plans.
  • Demonstrated performance and resource management skills in a global organization.
  • Broad knowledge of the drug development process, with a focus on integrated strategic publication planning is preferred.
  • Publication team experience (global and regional) with demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional and matrix environment.
  • Proven ability to set and manage priorities, resources, performance targets and project initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability to changing regulatory and publication environment by developing solutions that impact beyond the function.
  • Ability to manage change with a positive approach to the challenges of change for self, team, and the business.

Additional Skills/Experience: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and an ability to work both independently and with cross-functional groups and in a matrix organization.
  • Executive presence to engage senior leadership across the business.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce effective high-quality medical communications outputs: e.g., manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and slide presentations.
  • Ability to manage various projects, solve problems, deliver on commitments and work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of current industry guidelines and best practices.
  • Independent, self-starting individual with a demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel approximately 15-20%.
  • All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.
  • Travere will require proof of vaccination status to perform onsite, face to face work or to become employed.
