We are seeking a Senior Director of Global Internal Communications to serve on our Public Affairs team to drive our business priorities forward with strategic and impactful internal communications that will engage and educate our employees. This role will report directly to the Head of Corporate and Internal Communications and collaborate closely with colleagues from the Kite Public Affairs team, Kite cross-functional leaders, and serve as the key liaison with the Gilead Internal Communications Team.

The Senior Director of Global Internal Communications will be responsible for developing and driving a proactive internal communications program to drive employees' understanding of the company's priorities and key initiatives as well as direct change communications strategies. The successful candidate will be an impactful communications leader with demonstrated experience in developing global internal communications programs and channels and will bring valuable best practices and creative thinking to the role, as well as to the Kite Public Affairs function. We are looking for candidates that have developed a global employee communications function to support General & Administrative (G&A) teams and global business units, evolve employee communications digital channels, and produce impactful events like quarterly townhall meetings and global leader events.

This position will work with our teams based primarily at our headquarters in Santa Monica, CA, but will have global internal communications responsibility across Kite.

Responsibilities of the Senior Director of Global Internal Communications will include, but are not limited to:
  • Create and drive the global internal communications strategy to inform, engage, and motivate Kite employees around the company's business strategy, performance and priority initiatives, as well as the company's values and culture
  • Evolve, and in some cases, establish employee communications SOPs
  • Lead a core internal communications team within Kite's Public Affairs function that will partner closely with the business to drive measurable results against business priorities, and mange two direct reports and other indirect reports and project teams
  • Serve as a senior global communication counselor and strategic partner to business units and manufacturing as well as key G&A functions, such as HR, IT, Finance, Business Operations, and Legal/Compliance to ensure the delivery of strategic and timely internal communications that inform, educate, and engage Kite team members
  • Direct any additional large-scale internal communications initiatives across the Company including but not limited to large-scale celebration events, annual employee educational campaigns, Change Management initiatives, and crisis communications preparedness activities
  • Advise and coach Kite executives and subject matter experts on events/issues that need to be communicated internally, in addition to general communications counsel to help them deliver Change Management effectively
  • Develop an internal content strategy for all internal communication channels, including Company Intranet, e-mail announcements, webcasts, and meetings
  • Deliver energizing and impactful quarterly All-Hands Employee Meetings, including prepping executives, managing events, and developing content
  • Partner closely with Public Affairs team members to develop integrated communications strategies and materials to support corporate news flow, medical congresses, and other key business activities that require global internal communications pull through
  • Work with IT and external providers to assess and optimize internal communication channels across Kite including digital signs and Yammer, as well as oversee employee intranet evolution (Sharepoint/SiteCore); measure impact and engagement, drive better knowledge management systems for employees, and improve overall communication and engagement
  • Implement internal communications measurement tools and two-way internal feedback channels to gauge employee engagement
  • Guide internal communication agencies and associated budgets
  • Maintain the Company branding guidelines in all internal communication creation
  • Willingness to travel as needed (25%)


Basic Qualifications:
  • MS/MA in Communications, Liberal Arts, Business, or Science-oriented field with 12+ years of relevant industry experience OR
  • BS/BA in Communications, Liberal Arts, Business, or Science-oriented field with 14+ years of relevant industry experience OR
  • High School Degree with 18+ years of relevant industry experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Significant experience working in a dynamic global Corporate Communications function for a public company with a variety of different types of employees from highly technical/scientific to sales/marketing to a manufacturing environment
  • Extensive writing and project management skills
  • Extensive experience in employee and leader communications, employee engagement campaigns, and change communications
  • Proven experience in successfully running large-scale virtual and live events across multiple locations
  • Digital channel experience including content management systems and SharePoint experience (not programming but understanding functionality and able to direct technical staff)
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a senior counsellor and effective business partner to senior executives/leaders
  • Ability to influence and provide strategic direction
  • Ability to engage and manage multiple stakeholders to achieve objectives
  • Excellent learning agility, operationally excellent and resilient in the context of a rapidly changing, highly innovative environment
  • Organized with a systematic and pragmatic approach to prioritization and process orientated to achieve the business objectives
  • Demonstrated, relevant 15+ years' experience, which includes solid employee communications/public relations/content creation experience
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex information
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously; flexibility and results-oriented focus are essential
  • Self-starting and deep networking skills
  • Thorough stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work across matrixed, cross-functional teams
